The crew arrive to a cold and windy Swedish weather front, so assuming the Pike have moved to deeper water they fish with dead baits beneath floats in the middle of the river. As if the weather couldn’t get any worse, the snow begins to blow in, but it doesn’t stop Paul catching some beautiful Pike trolling lures with the use of a downrigger. We then head back to home ground to fish the Oxfordshire Thames, before returning to Sweden for some Pike fly tying with friend Johan Waden and in-depth tackle talk with Mick Willis.

He begins in the grimy centre of Salford, casting beneath the graffiti covered bridges and weirs he fished as a young boy. Ant explains how to stay mobile when fishing lures on these big rivers, constantly moving between structures and pools to locate these wily predators. Once again, drama strikes as Ant’s girlfriend goes into labour in the middle of a promising session. However, once the dust settles, he returns to a beautiful stretch of river two weeks later and finally gets the opportunity he’s been looking for. This episode proves that no matter where you are or what obstacles you face, there’s always a fish to be caught!

In this instalment of Urban Fishing, expert predator angler, Ant Glascoe Jnr shows us some of the great lure fishing to be found in his hometown of Manchester. He starts on a small lake in the middle of a housing estate that he used to fish as a kid and knows to hold some good Pike. The Pike soon wake up and he gets some aggressive follows and takes. Disaster strikes that evening as the film crew's car is broken into and Ant loses a huge box of lures so its off to a local tackle shop in the am where the owner kindly lends Ant some more. It's early January and Des is Pike fishing on one of his favourite lakes at Weston Park in Shropshire. Des arrives early to find the lake blanketed in mist, and as the sun breaks, he reflects on what a perfect winter Pike fishing day he's blessed to be out in. Des starts off by showing us how he puts together his ledgering rig and how he likes to hook up the Smelt and Pollan dead baits he prefers to use on lakes like this. After casting out the dead bait, Des shows us the importance of being ready to deal with a Pike once landed, with an unhooking mat, long pliers, cutters and water all essential items that should be ready and to hand. With no early action on the ledger, Des notices some Pike working near the surface, so decides to put a float rod out to target them and try and get a bite. The tactic pays off and Des is soon into a feisty Pike which he duly lands and demonstrates how easy it is to unhook. It's not long before the ledger rod starts beeping and Des is into a strong double figure Pike to end the session on Weston Park Lake. This is a great film, showing how to approach a day's winter piking for the best chance of success To watch just login or join

This has been my most successful pike fly over the past couple of seasons. Although it looks rather bulky, because it is created using backtying, it is light and easy to cast. The predominently pink colours make it irresistible.
