The Atlantic Salmon has been the ultimate prize since man first cast a fly. We Are Salmon Junkies explores the nature of an obsession; the natural wonders, the adrenaline, the friendships and everything else that drags anglers into an addiction for these massive fish. The film follows a season with guide Steffen Juhl in the world-renowned Kola Peninsula of western Russia, the home of the biggest salmon in the world capable of emptying a reel of line in a single run. The group begin on the Varzuga, a river with runs of up to 70,000 fish credited to a growing culture of environmental respect and catch and release policies. The season continues on the Umba, a unique river playing host to multiple yearly runs, where the anglers find themselves attached to the mythical and massive Osenka Salmon. This beautiful and introspective film celebrates the passion for fishing that only an angler could understand.
