Summers
(1)

24:40
Bob Summers is considered by many one of the finest bamboo rod makers in the world. He started building bamboo rods in 1965 at the Paul H. Young Rod Company in Detroit, Michigan under the watchful eye of Paul Young himself. Bob honed his craft and carried on the Young tradition of bamboo rod making after Mr. Young's death in 1960. Bob eventually left the Young Company, moved up to Traverse City, MI and started the RW Summers Rod Company which is still in business today. In the late 70's Bob met George Griffith the founder of Trout Unlimited at a TU fundraiser. The pair quickly struck up a friendship and became fishing buddies for the better part of 25 years, not only fishing George's home water, the famed AuSable river in Michigan...but destination all over the world. "Summers" is a documentary short that offers a rare glimpse into Bob's world as a rod maker as well as his relationship with George Griffith.

I’ve met Bob and spent some time at his home and workshop in Northern Michigan.

This is a wonderful film, covering some Michigan trout fishing history.
