The River Doon

Tam o’Shanter got away. Will Rae’s salmon?

In this edition of The Game Fisher’s Diary Rae Borras explores one of Scotland’s top spate rivers, the River Doon in Ayreshire.

Rising in the Galloway hills, the Doon flows more than 40 miles out into the Firth of Clyde. En route the river passes under the famous Brig o’Doon, the bridge that inspired Robert Burns’s famous poem Tam o’Shanter. Rae also enjoys a little fishing on the Stinchar, has a sing-song in the rain, and meets local legend Freddie Taylor, but can he land that elusive salmon?
