Chub

1:04:56
Old friends Keith Arthur and Rae Borras embark on a campaign fishing for Chub in this instalment of Our Favourite Fish. Undoubtedly one of the most beloved species in the UK, Chub were a trophy capture for both men in their boyhood days. They begin on the Grand Union Canal outside Hemel Hempstead were Rae got his start, float fishing and ledgering maggots around the overhanging trees and riverboats, discussing the best baits, hot spots, the Chub’s life cycle, and sharing stories of trophy captures. We flash forward to a beautiful summers’ day on the pristine pools of the River Stour at Throop Fishery in Dorset. The clear water and blooming weed reveal massive specimens feeding cautiously in the shallow patches of gravel. Rae fishes the bottom in the shade of a tree while Keith explores how to present pellets with a trotting float, bringing great success as he finishes the day on a monster. Eager to do the same, Rae enlists the help of the fishery owner and his knowledge of modern tactics evolving in the world of coarse fishing, and he finally gets his chance at a big Stour Chub.
