In the 1920's, when netting was banned in the local bay, the fishermen of Pacific City, Oregon switched to surf launched dory boats. They thrived as the commercial fishing fleet until superseded by larger factory style vessels but the tradition has continued and now a handful of dorymen offer their services to sports fishermen. Day One Outdoors host Cody Herman spends a day on the dory of Mike Laverty, who as you would expect has intimate knowledge of all the marques in the area. They start by targeting bottom feeding fish and immediately land some Lingcod and a few Black Sea Bass, but Mike keeps them on the move and they step up to bigger gear when he puts them on a good Halibut spot.
