World Fishing Day – Hour 12

Hour 12 features a collection of World Fishing Day stories from around the world. In the first film, we find out how predators and invasive species are threatening fish in the UK. We meet Finnish actor and fly fishing addict, Japser Paakonen as he discusses his love of fishing and his thoughts for the future of the sport and the habitats that wild fish need. We meet Charles Jardine as he introduces the charity, Fishing for Schools which offers young children the chance to discover the joy of fishing with over 2000 benefitting from the charity since 2008. In the US, a film from Trout Unlimited discusses public lands and the potential threat to their existence as legislators seek to transfer or 'sell' them off which would mean less access to anglers and hunters. In New Zealand, we discover a new and exciting saltwater fly fishery where Kingfish offer incredible sport. Back in London, we look at an organisation that fishes for plastic in the Thames, then manufactures boats from the reclaimed plastic. Also, in the UK, we look at the work of charity, the Wild Trout Trust which helps restore and revitalise wild trout habitat.
